Start Here

If you are new here, welcome. Pull up a chair.

We Sold Everything is the real-time, whole honest truth of how two people in their mid-fifties — Lainie and Kelly, plus two extraordinary dogs named Mollie and Samson — sold nearly everything they owned and pointed themselves toward a different life in Europe.

Not the curated version. Not the highlight reel. The whole thing — the fear, the uncertainty, the moments of genuine clarity, the spreadsheets that didn't add up, the plan that kept changing, and the deep, abiding belief that this is exactly what we are supposed to be doing.

You can start at the beginning and read in order. You can jump in wherever something catches you. You can read about the dogs first because honestly that is a completely valid place to start.

However you find your way in — we are glad you are here.

THE STORY SO FAR

Read in order, or jump to whatever calls to you.

THE FOUNDATION

Who we are and why we are doing this.

1. Why We Sold Everything

The origin story. Two people, one big question, and the moment we decided to stop waiting for the right time.

2. Meet Mollie

She is turning seventeen in June. She was found in a shelter in Arizona with a name that felt like a sign. She is the reason the cargo hold was never an option.

3. Meet Samson

He came to us as a bait dog with a broken spirit and learned, slowly and on his own terms, what it felt like to be safe. He goes where we go. Full stop.

WHO WE ARE

The stories that explain us.

4. Why We're Doing This — I Never Did Things the Conventional Way

Lainie's backstory. The farm in Minnesota, the spiritual bookshop, the wilderness girls, the life built sideways and on purpose.

5. The Night I Thought I Might Be a Good Person

A campfire at nineteen and the moment Lainie understood something about herself she had been trying to outrun.

6. Why We're Doing This — Kelly's Story

The war bride grandmother, the diving family, the long road through hospitals and pool routes. How Kelly became the person he is.

7. Why We're Doing This — The RA Journey

Two years of being dismissed. The urgent care moment. The diagnosis that changed everything and set the direction.

THE PLAN (SUCH AS IT IS)

How we are actually doing this.

8. We Are Actually Going — Here Is the Whole Winding Truth of How We Got Here

Spain to Mexico to England. Visa thresholds, Vicuna Air, work/stay farms, a van from Germany, and the road south when the cold comes. The whole messy honest story of how the plan became real.

THE LEAVING

The chapter we are living right now.

9. The Volvo is Gone

Kelly loved that car. The buyers came on a Saturday. There is no going back now — and there was never going to be.

10. 20 Days

The only job Lainie ever held for more than two years. What it gave her. What it cost her. And why she is walking away anyway.

11. The Last Day

June 12th arrived quietly. No fanfare, no ceremony — just a screen going dark at 4:40 PM, a car packed for the coast, and shoulders that dropped a little more with every mile.

THE PLOT TWIST
Because nothing about this has gone according to plan. And that has turned out to be the best possible thing.

11. Plot Twist
Kelly's grandmother was a British war bride. A law we had never heard of. A 96 to 98 percent probability. Everything just changed — and we are more excited than ever.

11MORE TO COME

We are 74 days out from August 6th. There is more road ahead than behind — the insurance search, the cross-country drive, the last day of work, the goodbyes, the flight, and everything that comes after. Follow along. We will be here.

A NOTE FROM LAINIE

I promised the whole honest truth of this — not the version where we have it all figured out, not the version where every step was intentional and brave, not the version that makes moving to Europe at fifty-five look like a Pinterest board.

The real version. The one where we are building the plane while flying it, where the fear shows up at 3am, where Kelly cleaned the car one last time before the buyers came because that is how he says goodbye to things he loves.

That is what this blog is. We are glad you found it.

Start wherever feels right. There are no wrong doors in.
